7 Ways to Celebrate World Ocean Day

World Ocean Day rolls around every year on June 8, when people come together to honor our oceans, raise awareness about marine conservation, and take action to preserve one of Earth’s most vital resources.

In addition, on this day, people are called to build a better life for future generations by ensuring an abundant ocean and stable client.

Whether you live inland or by the coast, there are so many ways you can make a difference. Here are seven easy ways to celebrate World Ocean Day.

#1: Participate in a Beach or River Cleanup

Marine pollution is a huge threat facing our oceans. In fact, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is so bad that experts say it would take “sixty-seven ships one year to clean up less than one percent of the North Pacific Ocean.” There’s so much trash in the ocean that it’s really inconceivable.

So, this year, join a local group to clean up your beach, lake, or river. Can’t find a cleanup? Organize your own. By picking up plastic waste and trash, you keep waterways clean and reduce harm to marine life.

#2: Go Plastic Free

World Ocean Day is a great day to commit to going plastic-free.

First, challenge yourself to go a whole day without using any single-use plastics, including plastic bags, straws, water bottles, or packaging.

You just might be surprised how easy it is to find reusable alternatives.

#3: Wear Ocean-Friendly Fashion

Support brands that care about the planet — like our own Soleless sandals.

Our barefoot, soleless sandals connect you directly with nature. They are just what you need for beach days, yoga, or simply walking mindfully. And since they’re designed with minimal materials, they leave a lighter footprint environmentally (and literally!).

#4: Choose Sustainable Seafood

What you put on your plate impacts the ocean, too. On World Ocean Day, choose seafood that’s sustainably caught or farmed.

Look for certification labels or consult apps like Seafood Watch so you can choose seafood that helps preserve marine ecosystems.

#5: Host a Blue Themed Yoga Session

Throw on a pair of our Seashell Barefoot Sandals and head to the beach or park for an ocean-themed yoga session.

Invite friends and family to join you and wear blue to celebrate the ocean. Reconnect with the water around you and enjoy a mindful experience.

#6: Donate to an Ocean Charity

Make your dollars count by donating to nonprofit organizations that work to protect marine life, reduce plastics in the ocean, research the ocean, rescue sea turtles, and restore coral reefs.

Small donation or large, your dollars make a big difference.

#7: Get Educated

You can peruse the Internet to learn about the issues facing our oceans today. These include overfishing, coral bleaching, plastic pollution, and more.

Share your findings in conversation or on social media. Awareness is the first step.

Final Thoughts on World Ocean Day

Take time on this special day to reconnect with the Earth, make eco-friendly choices, and rethink how you care for the environment.

Do some research and find ways to help. Lastly, make long-lasting changes to honor the oceans, not just today but every day. Less can be more, and it can be amazing, just like our Soleless Sandals!
